Lactation Services

The Bellevue Hospital offers full lactation services through it's Family Birthing Center.

The Family Birthing Center currently advocates for and supports babies rights to be breastfed.  Through early education, that starts at the first prenatal visit, every mother-to-be learns the benefits for her baby and herself in regards to breastfeeding.  This education continues through the offered Breastfeeding Class and at the Pregnancy Partner appointment at The Bellevue Hospital.

All interested mothers will have the opportunity to meet and discuss breastfeeding with Cherri Wilson, RN, IBCLC, LCCE.  Cherri has worked with moms and babies for over 25 years and is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator.  The Bellevue Hospital's Family Birthing Center is privileged to have Holly Bollenbacher RN, BSN, CLC, LCCE.  Holly is a Certified Lactation Counselor and Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator as well.

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) gives encouragement, support and helps with:

  • Basic information about breastfeeding
  • Positioning and latching the baby to the breast
  • Dealing with breastfeeding difficulties that may arise
  • Breastfeeding twins or triplets
  • Breastfeeding a premature or special needs baby
  • Breastfeeding even when medical issues arise with mom or baby
  • Dealing with breast pain
  • Continuing to breastfeed after going back to work or school

The staff of The Bellevue hospital's Family Birthing Center all support and assist the new families in their efforts to learn and achieve exclusive breastfeeding for their newborn.  Support is also offered after discharge through M.O.M.S. Breastfeeding Support Group where questions and concerns can be addressed in a friendly and supportive environment.
