New Lower Extremity Reconstruction Institute of Northern Ohio Opens

The Bellevue Hospital (TBH) welcomes Peter Highlander, DPM, MS, as a full-time member of TBH’s active medical staff and Great Lakes Physicians. Dr. Highlander, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, is accepting patients at the NEW Lower Extremity Reconstruction Institute of Northern Ohio, located at 420 W. McPherson Highway in Clyde, Ohio.           

Dr. Highlander, a Castalia, Ohio native, specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, including cartilage replacement, custom 3D printed deformity corrections, total ankle replacements, and trauma and fracture care. 

Dr. Highlander received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida and is most recently noted for his use of 3D printed custom implants. In January 2018, Dr. Highlander performed Ohio’s first successful total talus, or ankle, replacement using 3D printing technology. His is also the first surgeon in the U.S. to perform a custom first-metatarsal (big toe) replacement. 

The Bellevue Hospital has been named a “Center of Excellence by the American Orthopaedic Society of 3D printing because of Dr. Highlander’s recent accomplishments using custom, patient specific implants for complex foot and ankle pathologies. The Lower Extremity Reconstruction Institute of Northern Ohio is accepting new patients. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Appointments are required. For more information, call 419.484.5430.
