VOLUNTEERS & VOLUN-TEENS RECOGNIZED

AT THE BELLEVUE HOSPITAL

MAY 22, 2006  --

The Bellevue Hospital (TBH) and Hospital Auxiliary paid tribute to the many Volunteers and Volun-Teens who have donated countless hours at the local facility, with a Recognition Banquet held at Bellevue Club Amer-Ital on Wednesday, May 3.

Ginger Gerhardstein, president of the Auxiliary, Michael K. Winthrop, TBH President and CEO, and Marvin Rettig, TBH Vice President for Development welcomed and thanked the group for the many hours of dedicated service. Rettig offered a prayer of dedication for the volunteers prior to the meal.



Several Volun-Teens were honored by The Bellevue Hospital and coordinator Diane Dower, far right. Honorees included, left to right, Julie Boies, Emily Kessler, Monica Schaffer, Ashley Stockmaster, Erin Gray, Amanda McFarland, Laura Miller, Melissa Boies, Lexi Glanemann, Brian Boies, and Dower. Not pictured, Danielle Nunez and Rachel Stuck.

Each volunteer received a flower in a vase and a candle as mementos of the evening. Participants were later entertained by the “Rhythm and Rhyme” Barbershop Quartet of Dr. Jim Kasten of Norwalk, Al Downey and Ron Granneman of North Ridgeville, and Bill Fernkorn of Olmstead Falls.

The theme for the evening was “Years of Service.” The 82 adults and 12 teen volunteers combined for 11,675 hours of service in 2005. Karen Gehring, coordinator of the volunteer program at TBH, recognized three individuals for their years of service, including Ruth Paul, 42 years; Marge Smith, 35 years; and Hildreth Holmer, 44 years of employment at TBH followed by 19 years of volunteer service. Below is the list of volunteers with their first year of service denoted:

The Volun-Teens were then recognized by Diane Dower, coordinator. TBH Auxiliary member Sheila McFarland then presented $500 Volun-Teen Scholarships to seven individuals on behalf of the Auxiliary. The recipients included Melissa Boies, Rachel Stuck, Ashley Stockmaster, Amanda McFarland, and Kayla Newkirk, all from Bellevue Senior High School; Monica Schafer from Seneca East High School; and Lexi Glanneman from Fremont St. Joseph High School.

Door prize drawings concluded the program. Gehring thanked the following businesses and organizations for their door prize contribution: TBH, TBH Gift Shop, Parkertown Restaurant, Perry’s Plantation, Downtown Florist, Russell’s Farm Market, Hogue’s IGA, Dendinger Brothers, Coronet Jewelers, Bellevue ACE Hardware, and Bellevue Sports Hut.
