Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy

Physical Therapy:  Through strengthening and conditioning techniques, physical therapy assists patients in returning to more active and independent lifestyles. Fully equipped to provide the latest therapeutic techniques, the departments offers, upon physician referral, evaluation and consultation, therapeutic exercises, computerized muscle testing, electrical stimulation, ultrasound massage, and whirlpool.

Treatment is directed toward enhancing an individual's function through improving mobility, strength, coordination and balance. Those who may benefit from physical therapy include individuals who have experience orthopedic surgery, occupational or sports injuries, accidents or strokes.

Occupational Therapy also is provided at The Bellevue Hospital. The primary focus is optimizing strength and ability. Activities progress the patient from dependent behavior to a more productive role. Those who may benefit from occupational therapy include individuals who have experienced a stroke, orthopedic surgery, limb amputation, or automobile accident trauma. Patients may learn adapted ways of completing activities of daily living, like cooking and dressing. Other exercises are geared toward helping patients return to work.

 

Speech Therapy is available for patients of all ages who may need assistance in language skills. Patients who may benefit from speech therapy services include stroke patients or children with disabilities.
