Scholarship Winners

FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE BELLEVUE HOSPITAL

June 1, 2004 --

For the third consecutive year, ten recipients of scholarships given to children of The Bellevue Hospital’s employees were announced during National Hospital Week, May 9-15, 2004.

“The scholarships began as a way of investing in the future of healthcare and of providing an additional benefit for our employees,” said Michael K. Winthrop, president and CEO of The Bellevue Hospital. We are pleased to again offer the scholarships to a deserving group of individuals,” Winthrop added.

The Bellevue Hospital awards up to ten $1,500 scholarships to eligible dependents of its full or part-time employees, who have worked for two consecutive years at the hospital. The students are to be enrolled in post high school academic programs with a minimum of three of the scholarships reserved for students in healthcare related fields of study.

Employees must first make application for the scholarship prior to March 31st. The Scholarship Committee then meets to select the ten finalists for the award, and the recipients are announced during National Hospital Week.

Members of the Award Selection Committee were: Cindy Wuersig, from the hospital’s surgery department; Amy Alt-Coan, M.D., medical staff; Beverly DeBlase, board of trustees; Deb Myers, hospital auxiliary; and Paul “Pete” Callaghan, community relations/planned giving committee of the Hospital Foundation Board.

This year’s recipients are as follows:

Lisa Freeman

Registered Nursing at BGSU-Firelands, Huron,

daughter of Deb Freeman, Finance, and Jack Freeman, Bellevue;

Monica Hay

Masters in Social Work, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland,

daughter of Eileen Hay, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Larry Hay, Clyde;

Alicia Herman

Registered Nursing at BGSU-Firelands School of Nursing, Huron,

daughter of Rachel Herman, Finance & Information Systems, and Roger Herman, Bellevue;
