TBH HELPS SMOKERS KICK THE HABIT

Ohio Tobacco Quit Line

December 2, 2003  --

Ohio ranks fourth among states for the highest percentage of adults who smoke. The Bellevue Hospital (TBH) is joining forces with Ohio hospitals to help the communities we serve kick the habit.

TBH and the Ohio Hospital Association is pleased to inform you that the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation (TUPCF) has launched a statewide Ohio Tobacco Quit Line at 1-800-934-4840, a toll-free call to free cessation counseling.

The toll-free number connects people who want to quit using tobacco with trained counselors who can guide and support them through the quitting process. A person may call the Quit Line as many times as they like, free of charge. The service is available in both English and Spanish to people calling from anywhere in Ohio. Additionally, the deaf and hard of hearing community may utilize a TTY by calling 1-888-229-2182.

The 26 percent of Ohio women and 29 percent of Ohio males who regularly smoke will undoubtedly benefit from the Quit Line, one of several strategies proven by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to assist adult users of tobacco in their desire to quit. The Bellevue Hospital is pleased to be participating in the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line.

The Quit Line provides individual counseling that includes a personal quit plan to guide callers through all phases of quitting, including preparation for their quit date all the way through the possible relapse phase, keeping them from using tobacco again. Quit Line counselors will schedule calls from counselors and provide a Quit Kit including brochures and pamphlets with details about tobacco use and information on quitting.

To learn more about the Quit Line or to enroll in the program, please call call 1-800-934-4840 during the following hours: M-F 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sat-Sun 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EDT. 24-hour voice mail is also available.
