OPEN MRI

Using State-of-the-Art Technology our OPEN MRI provides excellent images
in a bright, open space that is less claustrophobic!

Our friendly, professional staff is available to answer any questions you may have on our new MRI.

We are always looking for ways to improve our services...to make it easier and more convenient for our patients.

Picker International's Outlook Proview MRI system was "designed to be the most powerful and advanced system possible and to be the most open magnet on the market," according to a company spokesperson.

"We are extremely proud to offer this service for all area patients," Patricia H. Semer, vice president of ancillary services, said. The Bellevue Hospital upgraded their traditional MRI unit to the OPEN MRI in response to patient and physicians requests for a closer-to-home OPEN MRI.

MRI technology uses magnets, radio frequencies and a computer to generate three-dimensional images of organs and structures inside the body.

It also offers a painless alternative to diagnostic surgeries and can provide early detection and diagnosis of a number of diseases and disabilities, including Multiple Sclerosis in its earliest stages.

In addition to the routine diagnostic uses of the MRI, the new unit will have greater speed - making the test faster for the patient and the results received faster by their doctor; quality image capabilities - producing clear, precise images; and roominess - adding space for the overall comfort of the patient.

"Apprehension and claustrophobic patients will be put at ease once they see the sleek design and space," Semer added.

The new MRI also accommodates large or heavy patients (up to 440 pounds), pediatric, or older patients who need a loved-on or attendant at their side, critically ill patients with monitoring devices, or patients needing kinematic (motion) studies.

The unit is also used for MR Angiography in providing clear pictures of major blood vessels without invasive procedures.

In traditional MRIs, the patient lays on a table and travels through a tunnel surrounded by magnets.

The OPEN MRI places magnets above and below the patient.

Three of the four sides of the magnet are open, allowing the patient an open view of the room.

Music is also played in the background, "They may choose from our selections - or bring in their own CDs," Semer said.

And Saturday hours are also being offered to be of benefit for patient scheduling

Telephone numbers for the hospital are 483-4040 (Bellevue); 547-0074 (Clyde); 639-2065 (Fremont, Old Fort, Green Springs and Republic). For additional information, please contact the Diagnostic Imaging Department at extension 4234.
