NEW CANCER LIAISON PHYSICIANJASON MCCHESNEY, M.D., RECEIVES APPOINTMENTDecember 29, 2003 --
Jason McChesney, MD, of Bellevue Four County Ear, Nose, & Throat, 1971 W. Main St., Suite B, recently received a three-year appointment as Cancer Liaison Physician for the Hospital Cancer Program at The Bellevue Hospital. The Cancer Liaison Program is an integral part of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. McChesney is among a national network of over 1,600 volunteer Cancer Liaison Physicians who provide leadership and support to the Commission on Cancer Approvals Program, and other activities at their local facility. Cancer Liaison Physicians facilitate participation in, and utilize data generated by, the data collection program of the Commission, the National Cancer Data Base. The data base currently contains patient demographics, tumor characteristics, treatment, and outcomes information for 12 million malignant cancers diagnosed and treated at hospital cancer programs in the United States between 1985 and 2000. These data count for approximately two-thirds of newly diagnosed cancers in the U.S. each year. The Cancer Liaison Physicians cooperates regularly with this program in the submission, presentation, use, and interpretation of the resultant report. The American Cancer Society estimates that 1,334,100 cases of cancer will be diagnosed during 2003. Cancer Liaison Physicians at Commission on Cancer-approved programs facilitate participation in the Commission’s Facility Information Profile System by coordinating the voluntary sharing of information on their facility’s resources and services and cancer experience. These data are shared with the public through the American Cancer Society’s National Call Center and website.
