The Bellevue Hospital’s Mammography Program Receives Reaccreditation

Highest Rating from from M.Q.S.A.

March 17, 2004  --

Left to right,

Marc Schoen, Diagnostic Imaging manager at The Bellevue
Hospital, is joined by

Janie Latham, RT (R) (CT) (M), and

Judy Kelble, RT (R) M,

is displaying the department's certificates for reaccreditation through the Mammography Quality Standards Act program.

The Bellevue Hospital’s mammography program has been reaccredited through the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and received the highest rating.

The MQSA legislation sets national, uniform quality and safety standards for all mammography facilities. The goal of MQSA is to assure safe and reliable mammography to allow detection of breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages.

“We congratulate you (The Bellevue Hospital) on this outstanding accomplishment. We commend you for the effort and attention you and your staff have put into developing exceptional operating systems,” stated John L. McCrohan, Director of the Division of Mammography Quality and Radiation Programs at the Department of Health and Human Services, in the approval notification.

The MQSA’s yearly inspection compares specific items in six major areas to federally-developed quality standards. The six areas are equipment performance, technologist quality control, medical physicist survey, personnel qualifications, medical reports and outcome audits. The inspection showed that all areas reviewed were in compliance with the required standards.

“We are very pleased with the results of the inspection,” Patty Semer, vice president of ancillary services, says. “And believe that our rating and accreditation reflects the high quality and professionalism of our mammography staff and services.”

The Bellevue Hospital’s mammography department is also accredited through the FDA and the American College of Radiology.

Additional information can be obtained through the hospital’s Radiology Department at (419) 483-4040, Ext. 4293.
