The Bellevue
Hospital Welcomes New Family
Member
Lisa Aichholz, Certified Family
Nurse Practitioner
November 25, 2005

In a continuing effort to expand medical services to
patients in the Bellevue area, The Bellevue Hospital (TBH)
has recently added an additional certified nurse
practitioner to the staff roster.
Lisa
Aichholz, APRN-BC, recently began her new duties and will be
splitting time between Bellevue and Clyde office locations
as nurse practitioner.
So, what exactly is a nurse practitioner? “I work in
collaboration with a physicians for a patient’s general
health care,” explains Aichholz. Simply put, a nurse
practitioner is a registered nurse who has advanced
education and clinical training in a health care specialty
area.
“I work in collaboration with physicians to provide
well-child checkups, perform physicals, take care of routine
illness patients, and perform pap and pelvic exams, among
other duties,” continued Aichholz. “In Occupational Health,
I care for new injuries, provide follow-up injury care as
needed, and perform pre-employment physicals.”
According to Aichholz some of her main duties include taking
medical histories of patients and performing physical exams,
diagnosing and treating common health problems such as
infections and minor injuries, treating and monitoring
chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and high
blood pressure, order lab work and x-rays, provide family
planning services, and provide well-child care. A nurse
practitioner can also prescribe or recommend prescriptions
in collaboration with a physician.
“I think most people enjoy seeing a nurse practitioner,”
added Aichholz. “While physicians tend to have busier
schedules, a nurse practitioner usually has more time for
follow-up care with patients. Most patients seem to
appreciate the extra amount of time a nurse practitioner can
spend with them.”
While in Bellevue, Aichholz is part of the staff of the
hospital’s Occupational Health Center, working with Dr. Lou
Ralofsky. The rest of her time will be spent in the Clyde
Clinic, 402 W. McPherson Hwy., where she can be found on
Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons beginning in
January of 2006.
Aichholz carries a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
from the University of Toledo/Medical College of Ohio, and a
Master of Science in Nursing from the Medical University of
Ohio, Toledo., specializing in Family Practice. She is board
certified as an advanced practice registered nurse.
This is her 10th year working with The Bellevue Hospital,
having previously worked as a staff nurse in the Intensive
Care Unit.
“It is great being here at TBH as a nurse practitioner. I am
excited and enthusiastic about continuing to continue my
professional career here at TBH and helping Occupational
Health Department continue to grow while working with the
factories and community members we serve.”
Aichholz resides in New Washington with her husband, David,
and children Madison, 5, and Maxwell, 1.
