“We sought accreditation for our department because we want to demonstrate our commitment to patient safety and quality care,” said Amy White, manager of the Hospital’s Lab Services. “We view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward achieving excellence.” “The accreditation process helps promote continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in health care organizations,” says Joanne Born, executive director, Laboratory Accreditation Program, Joint Commission. “Achieving accreditation demonstrates The Bellevue Hospital’s commitment to providing high quality and safe services.” The award of accreditation is for the two-year period ending April 15, 2006. This award includes only laboratory services. Founded in 1951, the JCAHO seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits nearly 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, including approximately 9,000 hospitals and home care organizations.
