Kiwanis Donation Announced

at The Bellevue Hospital

June 26,  2005  --

BELLEVUE KIWANIS CLUB RAISES $15,000
FOR THE BELLEVUE HOSPITAL CAMPAIGN

The Kiwanis Club of Bellevue has raised and/or pledged a total of $15,000 to The Bellevue Hospital’s Capital Campaign project, which to date has raised over $2.3 million toward the new hospital.

Kiwanis Division 12 Lt. Governor Ronald R. Smith, left, presents a check in the amount of $5,000 to Marvin Rettig, far right, Vice President for Development at The Bellevue Hospital. The check represents funds secured by the local Kiwanis Club through the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation. In addition, the local club has pledged an additional $10,000 to the hospital's Capital Campaign project. Pictured left to right are Smith; Michael K. Winthrop, president and CEO of The Bellevue Hospital; Kiwanis Club members Janet Scagnetti, Chris Walter (president), and Amy Reiderman; and Rettig.

The $15,000 includes $10,000 pledged by the local Kiwanis Club, and $5,000 given by the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation through the local club.

The Ohio District Kiwanis is comprised of 270 clubs with membership over 11,000. The Foundation was established in 1982 as a charitable not-for-profit corporation.

Historically, the Foundation has supported the safety, good health and education of young children and has emphasized pediatric trauma prevention and treatment.

The local Kiwanis Club pledged $10,000 to purchase pediatric equipment for the Emergency Department. In addition, the local group made an application to the Foundation for additional funds as part of the pediatric trauma prevention and treatment mission.

Local committee members were Chris Walter, president; Ronald R. Smith, Division 12 Lt. Governor; and members Amy Reiderman and Janet Scagnetti.

The grant request was then accepted by the Kiwanis Foundation, which awarded the $5,000 to “assist in your mission to provide pediatric care in your community.”

“We are extremely grateful not only for the Bellevue Kiwanis Club donation of $10,000, but for the local group going the extra distance to secure an additional $5,000 through their Foundation,” said Marvin Rettig, Vice President for Development at The Bellevue Hospital. “This donation will be directed toward pediatric services and programs at our local facility.”
