NEW SERVICE FOR IV ACCESS PORT PATIENTSSERVICE NOW OFFERED AT THE BELLEVUE HOSPITALNovember 11, 2003 --
The Bellevue Hospital (TBH) has implemented a new program to improve care for patients with IV access devices. IV access patients can now call the TBH Centralized Scheduling Department and schedule lab work, a port flush, or medications. An IV access port is a small, bulb-like device surgically attached beneath the collarbone. The port is used to give medications or to draw blood. “This is to our patients’ advantage, as it will decrease their waiting time,” commented Emily Wadsworth, RN, nurse manager of Cardiac Rehab. “We have designated staff and an area within the hospital to perform blood draws and flush procedures. Once the call-ahead appointment has been made, a specially trained registered nurse will work with the IV access patient to ensure prompt, quality service. IV access patients can phone TBH 24 hours-a-day at (419) 483-4040 (Bellevue), (419) 547-0074 (Clyde), or (419) 639-2065 (Fremont, Green Springs, Republic). Dial or ask for Extension 3067 from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., or Extension 4245 from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. For additional information on the IV access port program, contact Emily Wadsworth at Extension 4233. |
