The Bellevue Hospital Celebrates

National Hospital Week

May, 2005

The Bellevue Hospital staff is celebrating National Hospital Week, May 8-14, 2005, with activities throughout the week and during the month of May for employees and community members, using the theme of "A Calling To Care.”

“Healthcare has a personal and very powerful role in the lives of every member of the communities we serve,’” said Michael K. Winthrop, president and CEO of The Bellevue Hospital. “National Hospital Week gives us an opportunity to recognize the contributions of our healthcare workers and celebrate the great things happening in health care today.”

Several Hospital Week activities are being held in conjunction with the national celebration. They include:

- Community members are invited to have their blood pressure checked, free of charge, and to have a $5 cholesterol screening performed at these following locations: Bellevue Hogue’s IGA, May 17, 9 a.m.-Noon; Clyde Miller’s Super Valu, May 18, 9 a.m.-Noon; Clyde Drug Mart, May 25, 9 a.m.-Noon; and at the Morning Health Break, May 26, 8:30-11:30 a.m. No appointments are necessary.

- On Tuesday, the hospital staff was entertained by the Ridge Elementary School Choir, the hospital’s school-business partner. The choir performed in both the Main Station Café dining area and the atrium area.

- Wednesday, May 11, the names of the 4th annual scholarships for children of TBH employees were announced.

- Wednesday, May 18, the annual “Caring For Our Volunteers and VolunTeens” recognition dinner and program will be held at the Club Amer-Ital beginning at 5 p.m.

- Saturday, May 21, the 19th annual TBH & Kiwanis Blood Analysis Program will be held from 6:30-11:30 a.m. Appointments are required and may be made by phoning 419.483.4040, Ext. 4326.

- Saturday, May 21 will also be the date of the American Heart Association “Heart Walk” at Vet’s Memorial Lake Park in Norwalk. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the walk to begin at 8:30 a.m.

This is the 84th anniversary of National Hospital Week, an event begun in 1921 at the suggestion of a magazine editor who was concerned that the public perceived hospitals as institutions shrouded in secrecy. Today, National Hospital Week is celebrated in every major city. It is the nation’s largest health care event.
