THE BELLEVUE HOSPITAL IS CELEBRATING NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEKHospital Week CelebrationsMay 7, 2003 --
The Bellevue Hospital is celebrating National Hospital Week, May 11 to May 17, with activities planned throughout the week and during the month of May for employees and community members. "Bringing The Power of Care to the Community" is the 2003 National Hospital Week theme. “Healthcare has a personal and very powerful role in the lives of every member of the communities we serve,’” said Michael K. Winthrop, president and CEO of The Bellevue Hospital. “National Hospital Week gives us an opportunity to recognize the contributions of our healthcare workers and celebrate the great things happening in health care today.” The Bellevue Hospital has planned a number of public-interest activities in connection with National Hospital Week. Activities planned include the following events: -Community members are invited to have their blood pressure checked, free of charge, at Bellevue Food Town on Tuesday, May 13 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.; on Tuesday, May 20 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Bellevue Hogue’s IGA; on Wednesday, May 21 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Clyde Miller’s Super Valu; on Thursday, May 22 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Clyde Senior Center; and from 8:30-11:30 a.m. during the hospital’s Morning Health Break on Thursday, May 29 in the Private Dining Room at the hospital. No appointments are necessary. -"Giving the Gift of Love, the Gift of Life," is a special mammography program offered during the month as a women’s health community service by the Breast Care Program of The Bellevue Hospital. A gift certificate, valid through April 30, 2004, may be purchased at the reduced rate of $68 by mail or by phone. For more information or to order a certificate by phone, dial or ask for Extension 4223. -Monday, May 12, Ridge Elementary School, the hospital’s Business Partner, will present Hospital Week posters made by the students for the hospital staff. Also on May 12, the annual hospital staff appreciation picnic will be prepared and served by members of the administrative team. - Tuesday, May 13, the hospital purchased flowers from Ridge Elementary during their recent fund-raising event to give as gifts of appreciation to the hospital employees. The students will also assist in presenting the flowers to employees, volunteers, and hospital patients. - Wednesday, May 14, members of the Ridge School Choir will share their musical talents with hospital employees, visitors, and patients. - Thursday, May 15, the hospital will announce the recipients of the 2nd annual scholarships for children of TBH employees. Also on May 15 will be the Mature Audience Luncheon in the hospital’s Conference Center, Building B, lower level, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Andrew Huddleston, D.O., is the luncheon speaker. -Saturday, May 17, The Bellevue Kiwanis and The Bellevue Hospital will co-sponsor the 17th annual Blood Analysis program for the community in the hospital's Conference Center. A healthy breakfast will also be served, courtesy of the hospital’s Auxiliary. The 14-hour fasting blood analysis including cholesterol and glucose (sugar). Test results will be sent to the patient's doctor and a fee of $25 will be collected at the door. Registration is required by calling extension 4326. Also, participants at the Kiwanis Blood Analysis can take part in the thermometer exchange. Old mercury thermometers can be exchanged for a new digital thermometer. Participants can bring in as many mercury thermometers as they wish, but only one digital thermometer will be given, per participant. -Thursday, May 29, The hospital will honor employees and physicians completing a five-year interval of employment at the 23rd Annual Service Awards Banquet. This is the 82nd anniversary of National Hospital Week, an event begun in 1921 at the suggestion of a magazine editor who was concerned that the public perceived hospitals as institutions shrouded in secrecy. Today, National Hospital Week is celebrated in every major city. It is the nation’s largest health care event. |
