With the help of the Bellevue Kiwanis organization, The Bellevue Hospital Foundation recently purchased a fetal telemetry unit for the hospital's Family Birthing Center.

 Laurie Williams, RN, BSN, left, and Deb Freeman, representing the hospital Foundation, look over the new device, which monitors the heartbeat and contractions of moms-to-be, and can also monitor fetal heartbeats.

"This allows us to monitor both the mom and baby without actually being in the patient's room," said Williams. "We can keep a closer eye on things as the mom goes in to labor."

The $5,858 device was purchased through a donation to the Foundation from the Bellevue Kiwanis organization.
