Family Birthing Center of The Bellevue Hospital

The single-room concept of maternity care focuses on the comfort and needs of the family experiencing childbirth.

The mother is admitted to the room during labor and continues the process of delivery, recovery and post-partum stay in the same pleasantly appointed room.

The arrangement encourages family participation in this exciting life event. The baby's father, older siblings and grandparents can visit and hold the new baby anytime.

New parents can feel comfort in knowing that all the nurses in the Family Birthing Center have received extensive training in fetal monitoring and neonatal resuscitation, for those rare times when further medical intervention is required.

More than 400 babies are born each year at Bellevue. A full nursery, birthing rooms, whirlpool tubs in each room and advanced technology for monitoring mom and baby all make Bellevue the ideal location for routine births in the area.

The Family Birthing Center is served by a number of obstetricians, family practitioners and  nurse midwifes. Working in conjunction with an obstetrician, the nurse midwife performs all routine prenatal care, hospital deliveries and post-partum follow-up.

Community Programs: A variety of educational classes are offered. Parents learn more about the birthing process and new baby care.
