Diabetes EducationThe Bellevue Hospital Diabetes Education department provides specialized education to help adults with diabetes maintain healthy lifestyles. A dietitian and a registered nurse, certified as a diabetes educator, instruct people with diabetes on the cornerstones of good diabetes care: diet, exercise, medication, education and monitoring. Patients learn about both high and low blood sugar and how to manage their disease during periods of illness, such as cold or flu. The Bellevue Hospital Diabetes Education program is recognized as a model diabetes education program by the Ohio Community Diabetes Control Program, Division of Chronic Diseases, Ohio Department of Health. This recognition assures that patients are receiving education of the highest quality available for diabetes and its management. Access to the diabetes education program is usually by physician referral. The Diabetes Education Department also provides ongoing community programs and a Diabetes Support Group. For further information, contact the Diabetes Education Department at Extension 4303. |
