A total of 28 local and area students have become better babysitters, the result of completing a “Babysitting Basics” all-day course at The Bellevue Hospital.

            The participants met from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20 in the hospital’s Conference Rooms A&B. The class is for potential babysitters ages 11 and older.

            The course introduced the future babysitters to the roles and responsibilities of the babysitter, including how to handle emergencies and illness, the basics of bathing, diapering, and feeding infants, playtime suggestions, and safety and nutrition.

            Each student received a certificate of completion, a handbook, and T-shirt. They also received a certificate for free participation in a CPR class offered at The Bellevue Hospital. Lunch was also provided for the participants.

            Members of the class included Morgan DeWitt, Janelle Hess, Kara Shelley, Sara Pawsey, Kelly Bishop, Lindsey Yantz, Lindsey Williams, Alivia Danhoff, Marissa Tuttamore, Melanie Noel, Ally Darr, Kayla Cramer, Hilary Brown, Ashley Hooven, Sydney Schoen, Laura Doerner, Alexis McConnell, Carley Burgeson, Whitney Durnwald, Courtney Brown, Sammy Jacobs, Alex Fox, Matt Davenport, Emily Ritter, Kelsey Yantz, Alyssa Gonzales, Summer Foos, and Chelsea Sullivan.

The next Babysitting Basics course at The Bellevue Hospital is tentatively scheduled for a Monday in June after school is out for summer break.
