PINWHEELS ATTHE BELLEVUE HOSPITALApril 1, 2006 --
In 2005, over 770 reports of child abuse, neglect or dependency were registered in Huron County. To recognize and honor all the individuals who voiced a concern, hundreds of colorful pinwheels are on display in front of The Bellevue Hospital, Fisher-Titus Medical Center (Norwalk), Mercy Hospital (Willard), and the Huron County Courthouse. This is being done in observance of April being designated at Child Abuse Awareness Month. Also, as a part of the month-long observance, an appreciation breakfast was held on April 13 for "mandatory reporters," those people employed in position such as medical and school personnel, law enforcement, social services agencies, childcare providers, and other positions that are an integral part of children's lives. This year, the breakfast was co-sponsored by the Huron County Job & Family Services, The Bellevue Hospital, Willard Mercy Hospital, and Norwalk Fisher-Titus Medical Center. Awards were presented in recognition of individuals who stand out as child advocates. Huron County Children Services, the division of Huron County Job & Family Services that handles these reports and investigations, also handles foster care placements and adoptions. For more information about foster parenting, or any services offered by Huron County Children Services, phone 419.668.8126. |
