The Bellevue Hospital Diabetes Education Department
provides specialized education to help children and
adults with diabetes maintain healthy lifestyles. Topics
include diet, exercise, medication, education, and
monitoring.
DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP
The Bellevue Hospital’s Diabetes Support Group meet on
the second Wednesday of each month from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
in the East Conference Room at The Bellevue Hospital,
1400 W. Main St., Bellevue.
The support group is free and open to the public. Topics
for future monthly meetings are generated by ideas from
those who attend the programs.

TYPE-1 DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP
The Type-1 Diabetes Support Group meets quarterly in
Conference Room A from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the 1400 W.
Main St. facility.
The support group is for children ages 6-18 who have
Type-1 diabetes, and their immediate family members.
Type-1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and
young adults, and was previously known as juvenile
diabetes. In Type-1 diabetes, the body does not produce
insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert
sugar (glucose), starches and other food into energy
needed for daily life.

DIABETES QUARTERLY REVIEW
Diabetes Self-Care & Review is held quarterly from 9-11
a.m. in The Bellevue Hospital's Conference Rooms A&B.
Session focus on nutrition, medication, exercise,
handling unexpected illness, and other issues of
diabetes self-management. Participants also learn about
the 5 M’s of diabetes care: motion, monitoring, meals,
medication, and management.

DINING WITH DIABETES
The Bellevue Hospital (TBH), the Hospital Foundation,
and The Ohio State University Sandusky County Extension
Office team together to sponsor a three-week diabetes
information seminar, twice during the year. The program
is open to anyone with diabetes, their family members
and caretakers. Classes will be held on three
consecutive Saturdays
Participants learn how to prepare meals that are
healthy, easy to prepare, and taste good. Recipes will
be demonstrated and participants will have the
opportunity to taste each one. Participants will also
learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal
planning, exercise, and how to understand common
diabetes related medical tests. Recipe booklets and
handouts are given to each participant.
