Baby New Year Arrives at The Bellevue Hospital

First Baby at The Bellevue Hospital

January 5, 2004  --

The Bellevue Hospital’s first baby of 2004 could not wait to make his grand entrance.

Nicholas Alan Murr, son of Port Clinton’s Brandi Slag and Jeffrey Murr, came into the world a week earlier than expected, and in the process, became the first baby born in The Bellevue Hospital’s Family Birthing Center for 2004.

Nicholas arrived on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 10:12 p.m. He weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 19 inches in length.

Although his obstetrician was Gregory Karasik, M.D., Nicholas was delivered by Wesley Hedges, M.D., as Dr. Karasik was away for the New Year’s holiday. “I was scheduled for a c-section on Jan. 9,” explained Brandi, “But I started having contractions on Jan. 2; I guess Nicholas just did not want to wait another week.”

In recognition of being the first baby born at The Bellevue Hospital in 2004, he will receive a $200 savings bond from the hospital, a free rental car seat from the Kiwanis Club of Bellevue, a free infant massage class from TBH, and a hand-crafted baby book from the hospital Gift Shop.

Gifts from Bellevue area merchants include $25 from ACE Hardware; a case of diapers from Bassett’s Market; personally engraved silver baby shoe, heart rattle, and four-piece spoon, fork, cup and frame set from Benjumea Jewelry; free aerobics classes for mom from Dawn Bova - TBH Friends for Fitness; a goodie bag from CVS; $25 savings account from Croghan Colonial Bank, one free oil, lube and filter from Dendinger Brothers, $50 savings bond from First National Bank; $20 gift certificate from McClain’s Restaurant; baby bath seat from Pamida Store; basket of goodies from Dawn Hovanes and Pfizer; one dozen roses from Schindley’s Flower Shop; six month subscription from The Bellevue Gazette; one hour massage for mom from Melissa Warner, M.T.; and a free child portrait and sitting from Woodard Photographic.

Nicholas is the first child of Brandi and Jeffrey. Maternal grandmother is Sandi Runyon, Port Clinton. Paternal grandmother is Phyllis Hoyt, also of Port Clinton.
